It’s not too late to crush your midyear goals!

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

You probably set New Year’s resolutions in January, but are you sticking to them seven months later? If you’re like most people, life has intervened and it’s been hard to stay focused.

Here we are in the midyear -- the perfect time to reevaluate your progress AND reset your intentions about ALL the things: who you want to be, what you want to do, how you can be of value.

Whoa. We get it. That’s a lot!

And it’s easier said than done! With the world of work constantly changing, it can be hard to know how and where to start.

Where are you now?

Maybe the goals you set for yourself aren’t as relevant anymore. During a career transition, directions and priorities can shift as you explore your next move and gain more clarity along the way.

OR

Maybe you feel like you’re not making progress fast enough. We know you have a million distractions pulling at you - as mothers, wives, daughters, volunteers and entrepreneurs, we're in the same boat as you!

Time to re-prioritize YOU!

Are your thoughts sabotaging you from getting results as you think about your next career chapter? You’re among friends. Let’s get real!

Does this sound like you?

  • I’ve been in the same role or industry for too long.

  • My skills are outdated - I’ve been out of the workforce forever!

  • They don’t want someone my age.

  • I mean, I seriously have no idea what I want to do.

  • I should be able to figure this out by myself.

What resonates with you? Checking in with yourself is a simple and effective way to get to the root of why you’re not taking action.

And what’s holding you back may be a combination of the reasons (excuses, if we’re honest) listed above.

When you spend time understanding YOU and owning your assets and values -- your talents, skills, and what lights you up -- you’ll be ready to move forward.

The beauty about making a change in midlife is that you’re not starting from scratch! You have so much to draw from and leverage in your next chapter.

Try this: Put those limiting beliefs to bed. What if you saw midlife as an opportunity to shine?

One ah-mazing way to switch gears is to start doing.

Take it from women in our EvolveMe community who’re getting real results (and from us! as women who’ve pivoted and relaunched our own careers in midlife.) Career change requires taking action. Just that first step. And then the next.

Want to end the year strong and shift into action? Reset and create effective mid-year goals with these 3 tips for what you can DO now:

Tip #1 Check in with the intentions you’ve already set. If you set goals at the beginning of the year (or anytime after) review those first. See if they’re still applicable to what you want to achieve and what you value now. And if they’re not, it will be a good starting point for you to tweak from.

Think about what feels achievable in the next six months and be as specific as possible. When you write your goals, they should be as SMART as you are! Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. This approach gets rid of guesswork – and it’s easier to track your progress.

Tip #2 List your top 3 career related wins since January. Look back on your calendar. Go through your email. Review your journal entries. If you're really stuck, ask a friend, family member or colleague or a woman close to you.

Now make a list of the 3 career accomplishments you’ve had since the start of the year. And remember, it’s all relative to where you are in your career journey. Wins can be big or small.

If you reached out to a former colleague to let her know what you’re interested in now – that’s a win! If you’ve scheduled an informational meeting with a company on your dream list – that’s a win. And if you’ve had a few interviews (even if you didn’t landed the role) that’s a win, too!

Wins are cumulative! Each small step builds on the next for new opportunities. And ups your confidence level.

Tip #3 Write down what you have to GIVE right now. Not just what you’re good at. Often those are two different things! We hear you – you may not feel like you have anything to give to others now if you’re feeling stuck. But in midlife you’re not starting from scratch. You have years of experience to draw from!

What skills, talents, and perspectives do you have to share with others? Who can you inspire? Who needs a boost from you? Maybe a recent college graduate looking to settle in your city? Or a friend who wants to land a similar board position. If it’s not on your list, mentoring others is a great way to grow your career and make new connections while paying it forward.

Want momentum? Find a community that gets you and that will have your back, cheer you on when you land a new role and lift you up when you’re down.

If we’ve learned anything as women entrepreneurs, when you win, we all win!

So -- don’t go at it alone!
